AFM 6

Day started before 5am, still on English time so it's not as bad as it sounds.

Not Only Angels Can Fly producer Risaria Langley was departing for Seattle so it was the last chance for a final meeting in LA. She will be returning to AFM after her trip.

At a more civilised hour a very productive meeting with a hugely experienced producer who's agreed to help with The Kindness of Strangers and come on board Not Only Angels Can Fly. I'll reveal his name once he's been officially attached. But it's a huge boost to the projects and is the vital piece of the jigsaw to the movies which I believe will be as big as Four Weddings and a Funeral or the Full Monty.

With a cast for Not Only Angels Can Fly which could include Hugh Grant, Emma Thomson and Daniel Craig then the movie will be a classic Briitsh comedy with international appeal. Under the helmsmanship of talented writer/producer Risaria it will be something very special.

Today the tables were turned on me as I gave an indepth interview to Austin Burbridge, Editor-in-Chief of Cinema Minima News for Movie Makers Worldwide. As a reporter I have interviewed thousands of people but today it was my turn to be grilled. It was a very civilised affair in the shade by the pool at Le Merigot Hotel.

Austin was a fascinating interviewee as his questions were very inciteful. They certainly got me thinking about many issues which usually don't even raise their heads. Questions like what kind of director do I want to be percieved in the market place? and  how do I want my audience to react to my work?  certainly tested the grey matter. Thankfully he was taping the interview as I waffled on with my answers! Certainly not the savy ten second soundbites from a former tv reporter you might expect! Thankfully he didn't fall asleep during my extremely lengthy answers. I look forward to seeing the article and will post a link to it here on the website.

An unexpected surprise between meetings was a skype video call from talented actor and writer Jason Stevens. Technology sure is grand. Good to see Jason back to health. And the secret of that call I'm sure will go with him to the grave.

A fascinating meeting finished the afternoon. A very encouraging supporter and owner of a top flight sales company agreed to watch the rough assembly of the movie! He gave me masses of great advice on how to market the movie and get the best results for me and my team. A real high to finish the day and the trip on.

Almost time to pack up shop here at the AFM in LA. It's been a fascinating adventure with a huge amount of unforgettable moments. It surpassed my expectations in professional terms. But on a personal level it was fun and inspiring.

Time to take a short break before launching straight back into the thick of the post-production for The Kindness of Strangers.

Of course before I leave there is just enough time to take one last paddle in the pacific ocean.
